KUCHING: The Ministry of Education, Innovation and Talent Development (MEITD) Recreational and Sports Club distributed bubur lambuk and dates to staff members in conjunction with Ramadan as part of an initiative to promote unity and foster a spirit of togetherness within the ministry.
According to a statement, the initiative on Friday (Feb 27) aimed at fostering togetherness and celebrating the fasting month, and saw club members led by president, Sharifah Fariah Syed Junaidi, handing out packed containers of the spiced porridge, a Ramadan favourite, alongside premium dates.
Bubur lambuk, prepared and arranged by volunteers, symbolised generosity and unity, and is traditionally slow-cooked with herbs, spices and rice, often a typical dish during Ramadan.
Sharifah Fariah said the programme was organised to strengthen bonds among staff and promote compassion within the workplace.
“Ramadan reminds us to care for one another and appreciate the people around us,” she added.
“Through this simple gesture, we hope to bring colleagues closer and allow everyone to share in the spirit of the month.”
Staff welcomed the initiative, noting that the bubur lambuk and dates evoked memories of family traditions, mosque distributions and community gatherings commonly held during Ramadan across Sarawak and Malaysia.
Beyond sharing food, the programme created opportunities for staff to connect, exchange greetings and briefly pause from their daily responsibilities.
The inclusion of dates, traditionally used to break the fast, further reflected the significance of the occasion and the continuation of long-standing traditions.
The MEITD Recreational and Sports Club has a long-standing reputation for organising welfare-centred activities.
