BETONG: A total of 41 landowners received compensation amounting to RM1,668,346.66 for the project to upgrade the road from Mara to Jalan Selangking, Nanga Sela and Tanjung Paoh.

Deputy Premier and Bukit Saban state assemblyman, Datuk Amar Douglas Uggah Embas, officiated the handover of 68 compensation cheques to the affected recipients during an event held at Rumah Mubok Julie, Tanjung Paoh, here on Friday.

He said that the payment of this compensation reflects the Gabungan Parti Sarawak (GPS) government’s commitment to ensuring every development project is implemented in an orderly manner and provides benefits to the people.

According to Uggah, every land requirement for the construction of roads and public facilities will be managed appropriately, including through the payment of compensation to the affected landowners.

“When the government requires land to build roads, compensation will be paid to the landowners. Today clearly proves that point,” he said in his speech.

Uggah also said that the project, which is expected to be completed in October 2026, has currently reached 42.3 per cent progress and is ahead of schedule.

The project is set to bring significant benefits to the local residents, particularly in improving accessibility and road safety, as well as stimulating rural economic growth.

In related regional development news, the tender for the development project in Bukit Sadok has been decided.

Additionally, a mini-hotel construction project worth RM14 million will also be implemented to accommodate visitors and further boost the tourism sector in Bukit Saban.
