DARO: The construction project for the Daro Health Clinic (Type 4) (Phase II), valued at RM46.8 million, has officially commenced, marking the end of a decade-long wait for residents seeking more comprehensive healthcare facilities.
Daro state assemblyman, Safiee Ahmad, said the project began on February 4 and is scheduled for completion by August 3, 2028 under a 30-month contract period.
He noted that the new clinic is crucial to replace the former Daro Health Clinic, which was destroyed in a fire on 7 October 2015, forcing healthcare services to operate from a temporary facility at the Daro Hospital Rest House.
“Since that incident, health services have had to operate from a temporary clinic located at the Daro Hospital Rest House with limited and inadequate facilities,” he said during the Commencement of Works Ceremony at the project site in Kampung Tengah here on Friday.
He added that the situation had posed challenges to healthcare personnel and inconvenienced residents seeking treatment.
According to him, the new clinic will offer modern, comprehensive and more comfortable treatment facilities for residents in Daro and surrounding areas.
Safiee also expressed hope that the project would proceed smoothly and be completed on schedule through close cooperation among implementing agencies and contractors, ensuring the community benefits as soon as possible.
The project is being undertaken by Dasanrama Sdn Bhd as the main contractor, with the Sarawak Public Works Department (PWD) Mukah Division serving as the implementing agency and project supervisor.
Residents who frequently rely on the clinic have voiced hope that the project will be completed within the stipulated time frame so they can access improved and more comfortable healthcare services.
