MIRI: Police in Miri have stepped up night-time enforcement with district-wide integrated operations aimed at deterring crime and tightening road safety, amid concerns over traffic violations and public order.
A total of 32 officers, including four senior officers and 28 personnel, were deployed under the ‘Ops Bersepadu Pencegahan Jenayah’ organised by IPD Miri.
The operations combined roadblocks, snap checks, mobile patrols and inspections of entertainment outlets across the district.
The operations began at 10 pm on Saturday following a briefing led by Assistant Superintendent Ahmad Fauzi Sabri, head of the district management division.
Officers were assigned to multiple enforcement streams, including vehicle checks at strategic roadblocks within the Miri police administrative area.
Police said the roadblocks uncovered a wide range of traffic offences, contributing to a higher number of summonses issued during the operations.
Among the most common violations were driving without a licence, unauthorised vehicle modifications, missing side mirrors, modified exhaust systems, decorative or non-compliant number plates, and expired road tax.
Alongside traffic enforcement, mobile patrols and snap checks were carried out in residential areas, villages and along main roads as part of an “omnipresence” strategy designed to prevent crime through visible policing.
Officers said the approach was intended both to deter criminal activity and to reassure residents about safety in their neighbourhoods.
Inspections were also conducted at entertainment centres throughout the night to ensure compliance with regulations and to monitor public order.
Police said similar integrated operations would continue from time to time as part of ongoing efforts to suppress crime and maintain a strong police presence in public spaces.
