KUCHING: Local artists, particularly in Sarawak, have been urged to seize opportunities for strategic collaboration with professional recording companies to expand their works into the national and international markets.

Simunjan state assemblyman Awla Dris said collaboration between local music practitioners and established recording companies such as Luncai Emas Sdn Bhd represents a significant initiative in strengthening the state’s creative arts industry.

He said such efforts not only serve as a meeting platform but also provide an important space for local composers and artistes to build industry networks, enhance their skills and strengthen their standing in the national music scene.

“As the representative for Simunjan, I hope to see more composers and artists from this area making a name for themselves not only at the state level but also on the international stage,” he said at the launch ceremony of composer Abdul Lattif Poli’s songs in collaboration with Sarawak’s artistes here recently.

Awla added that the involvement of renowned national music icon Datuk M. Nasir in collaborations with Sarawak’s artists is expected to open wider opportunities for local talents to be showcased professionally and competitively.

At the same time, he reminded youths from rural areas not to view geographical factors as obstacles to success, but rather as motivation to produce high-quality works capable of penetrating larger markets.

He stressed that the strength of the music industry does not depend solely on talent, but also requires unity, cooperation and professionalism among industry players, instead of unhealthy competition.

Meanwhile, Managing Director of Luncai Emas Sdn Bhd, Datuk Dr M. Nasir, described the launch of the mini album produced by local composer Abdul Lattif Poli with Sarawak artistes as a significant move in strengthening the music ecosystem in Bumi Kenyalang.

He said the initiative not only highlights emerging local talent but also opens broader opportunities for Sarawak’s creative works to be marketed professionally at the national level.

He also expressed appreciation to Abdul Lattif for his commitment as a producer and songwriter in delivering a mini album that showcases the potential of local artistes.

“Our mission is to protect the intellectual property of creators, ensure their rights are managed professionally and create opportunities for local works to penetrate the mainstream market, particularly in Peninsular Malaysia,” he said in a speech text read by Abdul Lattif, who is also chairman of the Simunjan Natives Welfare Association (PERKAJAS).

In addition to producing the mini album, Luncai Emas will serve as the official digital distributor for all songs in the album and manage the administration and copyright of the works.

The album launch is seen as a proactive step in raising awareness among industry players on the importance of copyright protection while strengthening the position of Sarawak’s songwriters in the national music industry and creating more opportunities for healthy competition, aligned with efforts to elevate local arts and cultural heritage through modern music.
