KUCHING: Teaching is no longer just a profession but a national mission to shape future generations and strengthen the foundation of the country.

In stating this Dayang Dayana Abg Abd Nasir from PeKA (Kuching Autism Community Guidance Association) said the country needs more teachers, not just for today, but for the years ahead.

As its education system expands, reforms, and adapts to new challenges, the demand for dedicated, competent, and passionate teachers continues to grow, she added.

She said this in light of the Education Service Commission (SPP) and the Ministry of Education (MoE) announcing the recruitment of Education Service Officers Grade DG9 for 2026.

A total of 20,000 new teachers will be appointed to meet the increasing needs of the nation’s schools.

Education graduates holding a Bachelor of Education degree or a Bachelor’s degree with a Diploma in Education may apply through the mySPP system.

Non-education graduates who will be appointed on a Contract of Service (CoS) basis may apply online through the PDPP system. Applications are open from March 2 until March 20.

“This large-scale recruitment supports the implementation of the Malaysia Education Plan (RPM) 2026 – 2035, the voluntary enrolment of six-year-old pupils into Year 1 beginning next year, and preparations for the New School Curriculum 2027.

“These major reforms signal one clear message, that is more quality teachers are essential to ensure smooth and effective implementation,” she said.

Beyond that, she added, MoE plans to open 350 additional preschool classes in 2026 and another 150 in 2027.

Seventeen new schools will also be established, comprising two primary schools and 15 secondary schools.

The move includes increasing the number of teachers to support compulsory secondary education.

“In strengthening inclusive education, 100 special education classes will be opened in 2026 and another 100 in 2027, bringing the total to 200 additional classes.

“This ensures students with special educational needs are given broader access and equal opportunities within the national education system, and it requires teachers who are committed to inclusivity and compassion.

“Prospective applicants are encouraged to understand that teaching extends beyond classroom instruction.

Teachers play comprehensive roles in academic delivery, co-curricular guidance, character development, and school administration,” she said.

Academically, she said teachers plan and implement structured teaching and learning sessions, prepare materials, conduct assessments, and ensure students achieve learning objectives according to their abilities.

In co-curricular activities, teachers mentor clubs, sports, and uniformed bodies to nurture leadership, teamwork, and discipline.

“Teachers also shape character by instilling noble values and serving as role models.Administratively, they contribute to documentation, record management, meetings, and compliance with school policies to ensure smooth operations.

“To thrive in this profession, teachers must possess strong professional ethics, sound knowledge of educational philosophy and policy, and the ability to adapt to evolving educational trends.

“Effective instructional planning and collaboration with parents, colleagues, and the community are equally important in developing students holistically,” she said.

Dayang Dayana said the call for more educators is about preparing Malaysia for the next decade and beyond.
The classrooms of today will produce the leaders, innovators, and citizens of tomorrow, she said.

“If you are seeking a career with purpose, impact, and long-term national significance, this is your opportunity.

Assess your readiness in terms of competence, commitment, and integrity, and take the first step toward becoming part of a profession that shapes the nation’s future,” she said.

Applications can be submitted online via mySPP or PDPP.
