KUCHING: The Kuching Taekwondo & Self-Defence Club (WTF) held its first belt upgrading test of the year over the weekend at its Taman Heritage Training Centre in Petra Jaya.

The session was officiated by Grandmaster Tan Check Joon, a national examiner from Taekwondo Malaysia (TM/WT).

Coach-in-charge Tan Cheng Qiang extended his gratitude to Check Joon, assistant coaches, black belt assistants, students and parents for their collective efforts in ensuring the smooth running of the event.

Candidates were assessed on the five fundamental tenets of taekwondo – Courtesy, Integrity, Perseverance, Self-Control and Indomitable Spirit.

Notably, the session coincided with the holy month of Ramadan, with many coaches and students competing while fasting, a testament to their unwavering dedication to the sport.

The event reaffirmed the club’s commitment to nurturing character, discipline and excellence among its members, both on and off the mat.
