BINTULU: Police have arrested a 36-year-old local man for stealing two batteries from a house in Jalan Durian Burung.

District police chief Supt Nixon Joshua Ali said the suspect was detained at about 4.20pm on Feb 25 in the town area.

He said the suspect admitted to stealing two batteries from the residence in Jalan Durian Burung.

“Checks revealed the suspect has nine prior criminal records related to drug offences in Bintulu and Sibu,” he said in a statement.

The suspect is being investigated under Section 379 of the Penal Code, which provides for a jail term of up to seven years, or a fine, or both upon conviction.

Police are also conducting further investigations to determine if the suspect was involved  in other theft cases in the district.

Nixon advised homeowners to enhance security measures and urged the public to channel information on criminal activities to the police.
