MIRI: Police detained a 52-year-old local man on suspicion of drug trafficking following a raid at a house in Kampung Bakam on Saturday afternoon (Feb 28).

Officers from the Narcotics Criminal Investigation Department carried out the operation at about 4.20pm, acting on intelligence linked to drug distribution activities in the area.
During a search on the premises, police seized three transparent plastic packets and nine cut pieces of straw tubes, eight with red stripes and one green, containing crystalline substances believed to be methamphetamine.
The total haul weighed an estimated 5.20 grammes and is valued at about RM600 on the local market.
The suspect was taken to the Narcotics Criminal Investigation Department office for further investigations. Checks revealed he has two previous records related to drug offences.
The case is being investigated under Section 39A(1) of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952, which carries a mandatory prison sentence of between two and five years upon conviction, along with whipping of not fewer than three strokes and up to nine strokes.
