KUCHING: Kuching South City Council (MBKS) enforcement officers swooped down on unauthorised pet grooming and boarding activities at a shoplot along Jalan Datuk Bandar Mustapha following complaints from nearby residents over noise and hygiene concerns.

MBKS carried out an inspection at the premises led by its Mayor, Datuk Wee Hong Seng, together with councillors and enforcement officers after receiving reports of persistent barking, foul odours and unsanitary conditions affecting the surrounding commercial area.

Checks on site confirmed that the council does not issue licences for pet grooming and boarding operations at the premises in question.

Following the inspection, MBKS issued a formal notice under Section 113 of the Local Authorities Ordinance, 1996, directing the operator to abate the nuisance and take the necessary remedial measures to prevent further disturbance to neighbouring businesses and occupants.

Wee stressed that compliance with local authority regulations is compulsory, warning that enforcement action will be taken against any party found to be in breach of the law.

“Businesses must operate responsibly and ensure their activities do not compromise public health, sanitation or the peace of the surrounding community,” he said.

He added that non-compliance with the notice constitutes an offence under the Ordinance and, upon conviction, offenders may face a fine of up to RM2,000, imprisonment of up to six months, or both.

The council remains committed to protecting community wellbeing and ensuring Kuching South continues to be clean, safe and orderly through firm but fair enforcement.
