KUCHING: Strong technology collaboration has been identified as key to advancing the Sarawak Government’s PCDS 2030 and Sarawak Digital Economy 2030 objectives.
Building on this vision, ZTE Corporation, through ZTE (Malaysia) Corporation Sdn Bhd (ZTE Malaysia), entered into a strategic Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with SACOFA at the 2026 Mobile World Congress (MWC) in Barcelona on Monday (Mar 2).
SACOFA chief executive officer Jafer Sadig Abdul Lathiff, said that Sarawak’s aspiration to become a high-income and digitally advanced state requires forward-looking infrastructure strategies and trusted technology partnerships.
“Through this strengthened collaboration with ZTE Malaysia, we are accelerating rural connectivity via fibre, Fixed Wireless Access (FWA) and secure public Wi-Fi platforms, ensuring inclusive access to digital services for all Sarawakians,” he said in a statement issued by SACOFA today (Mar 4).
“Partnering with SACOFA will accelerate digital infrastructure development, modernise the state-wide network, and reinforce SACOFA’s role as Sarawak’s leading telecommunications provider and connectivity hub,” in a statement issued by SACOFA today (March 4).
He added that the partnership will help modernise the state-wide network and strengthen SACOFA’s role as Sarawak’s key telecommunications infrastructure provider.
Meanwhile, ZTE Malaysia managing director Steven Ge said the company is committed to supporting Sarawak’s digital transformation.
“By combining advanced fibre access, high-performance FWA, trusted public Wi-Fi platforms, integrated rural base stations, and smart green energy systems, we aim to deliver scalable, secure connectivity solutions tailored to Sarawak’s diverse landscape,” he added.
The initiative is expected to improve broadband access for homes, longhouses, schools, healthcare facilities and businesses throughout the state.
