KUCHING: Head of State Tun Pehin Sri Dr Wan Junaidi Tuanku Jaafar led the state’s top leadership in a breaking-of-fast ceremony at Astana Sarawak, underscoring unity and shared responsibility during Ramadan.
Wan Junaidi, accompanied by Toh Puan Datuk Patinggi Fauziah Mohd Sanusi, attended the Majlis Sungkei Perdana at the Banquet Hall, Surau Astana Sarawak on Wednesday (Mar 4) where they also performed the Maghrib, Isyak and Terawih prayers with members of the Sarawak Cabinet and senior officials.
Among those present were Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg and his daughter Dayang Nurjihan, Deputy Premiers Datuk Amar Douglas Uggah Embas and Datuk Amar Dr Sim Kui Hian and their spouses; and Speaker of the Sarawak State Legislative Assembly Tan Sri Datuk Amar Mohamad Asfia Awang Nassar.
The evening began with a simple breaking of fast, reflecting gratitude for the blessings of Ramadan, followed by congregational Maghrib prayers and dinner in a warm and cordial setting.
The programme continued with Isyak and Terawih prayers led by the State Imam Sahibul Fadhilah Datuk Mustapha Kamal Ahmad Fauzi.
After the prayers, Wan Junaidi and Fauziah visited the stalls serving traditional Ramadan delicacies, including sotong tuntok, roti john, aiskrim gulapong, apam balik and assorted fritters.
In conjunction with the gathering, Wan Junaidi expressed hope that the holy month would inspire leaders and the people alike to carry out their responsibilities with sincerity and integrity while praying that all acts of worship be accepted and bring continued blessings and well-being to Sarawak.
