KUCHING: Sarawakian talent dominates Kuching City FC’s 2026 President’s Cup squad, with 21 local-born players earning places in the 25-man lineup.
Head coach Firdaus Morshidi said the squad comprises standout performers identified during recent selection sessions.
“We have completed the list of 25 players for the 2026 President’s Cup.
“Of that number, 21 are Sarawak-born players, while four are from West Malaysia,” Firdaus told Sarawak Tribune.
He added that eight members of the current squad were part of last season’s team, providing continuity and valuable experience.
The roster also features players promoted from the senior squad, last season’s Youth Cup team, as well as individuals from the 2025 KPM League side — reflecting the club’s emphasis on player development pathways.
“I believe the combination of these players can form the strong unit we are aiming for,” he said.
Firdaus said the players will report for duty and begin training immediately after Hari Raya Aidilfitri as preparations gather pace.
“All players will report after the festive break and will immediately begin training,” he explained.
On pre-season plans, Firdaus said discussions are ongoing, although details have yet to be finalised.
“There are plans in place, but we are still awaiting feedback from the management,” he said.
The 2026 President’s Cup season is scheduled to kick off on May 8, with Kuching City determined to make their mark through a squad built largely on homegrown Sarawak talent.
