MIRI: The public is invited to gather for World #QuranHour 1447H at the Auditorium of Pustaka Negeri Sarawak here on Wednesday (March 11), at 9 am, in conjunction with 21 Ramadan 1447H.
According to Pustaka Negeri Sarawak, the initiative reflects a shared aspiration to cultivate a Quran-centred society grounded in knowledge, compassion and spiritual resilience.
“For this year, we are highlighting Surah Al-Muzzammil, which carries messages of patience, steadfastness and reliance on Allah in navigating life’s challenges,” it said in a statement on Wednesday (Mar 3).
Carrying the theme ‘Shaping humanity before building the world’, the programme calls on individuals to pause from daily busyness and reconnect with divine guidance.
Participants will spend one meaningful hour reading, understanding and engaging in tadabbur, or reflection, on selected Quranic verses collectively within a structured session.
The event will be graced by Miri Deputy Mayor, Ariffin Mohamad, symbolising strong local support for strengthening noble values through Quranic appreciation.
The organisers hope the initiative will shape a generation whose personal “operating system” is rooted in Quranic guidance, fostering compassion and responsible citizenship.
Leading up to the main event, a khat competition for primary school pupils will be held on March 9 from 8 am to 4 pm.
On March 10, the Azan Competition 2026 will take place at the auditorium, open to registered Muslim male secondary students across the Miri District.
A ‘Fun with Jawi’ workshop will also be organised, offering interactive exposure to Jawi writing while nurturing appreciation for Islamic heritage and identity.
Members of the public may also participate virtually, ensuring wider access to the one-hour Quran engagement beyond the physical venue.
