KUCHING: The Kuching South City Council (MBKS) has officially handed over the project site for the repair and upgrading of the drainage system at Lorong Chawan 3 to the appointed contractor.
The project, which spans approximately 300m of concrete drainage, is scheduled for completion within four months and aims to significantly improve water flow in the residential area.
Mayor Datuk Wee Hong Seng said the upgrading of drainage infrastructure is a critical measure to mitigate flash flooding risks during heavy downpours.
“This project reflects MBKS’ continuous effort to improve basic infrastructure and address the concerns raised by our residents,” he added.
“Proper drainage is essential to ensure safety, smooth traffic movement, and the overall well-being of the community.”
The scope of works includes the repair and reconstruction of damaged drain sections, along with related civil works to reinforce the structural integrity of the overall system.
Wee also advised residents to expect temporary inconveniences during the construction period, adding that MBKS will closely monitor the progress to ensure the project meets the required standards and is completed on time.
Also present during the handover were deputy secretary Taufiq Abdullah, councillor Albert Tay and Penghulu Tan Heng Kee.
