KUCHING: SEDC Permata Sdn Bhd recently organised its annual bubur lambuk distribution programme as part of its Ramadan community outreach initiative.

The programme brought together management and staff of the company to prepare and distribute 400 packs of the traditional Ramadan dish to the public and nearby residents.

Sarawak Economic Development Corporation (SEDC) Group Chief Executive Officer, Rakayah Hamdan, cited such initiatives reflect the organisation’s commitment to community wellbeing.

“Ramadan reminds us that corporate success should not only be measured through business achievements, but also through our contributions and positive impact on society,” she said when launching the SEDC Permata Sdn Bhd Bubur Lambuk Distribution Programme at the Urban Transformation Centre (UTC) here today.

She added that programmes like the bubur lambuk distribution strengthen relationships between organisations and the community while nurturing a culture of compassion and volunteerism among employees.

According to Rakayah, the tradition of preparing bubur lambuk during Ramadan symbolises unity, cooperation and mutual care among those involved in its preparation and distribution.

She noted that the process of preparing the dish requires close teamwork, reflecting the collaborative work culture practised within SEDC and its subsidiaries.

Rakayah also commended the dedication of SEDC Permata staff who contributed their time and effort to preparing ingredients for cooking, packaging and distributing the meals.

She described their participation as a meaningful charitable effort, particularly during the holy month when acts of generosity and sharing are greatly encouraged.

“The programme, organised by SEDC Permata Sdn Bhd, a subsidiary of SEDC, aims to strengthen community ties while promoting corporate social responsibility within the organisation.

“It also served as a platform to encourage employee engagement in social initiatives while fostering a spirit of unity among staff members.

“The distribution of bubur lambuk has become a meaningful Ramadan tradition across Malaysia, symbolising generosity and the importance of sharing food with the community,” she said.

“The initiative further reflects SEDC’s broader mission of ensuring that its development efforts contribute positively to the wellbeing and social fabric of the community.”
