KUCHING: Thousands of schoolchildren in the Kuching district received a timely boost ahead of Hari Raya this week, as the Sarawak State Mosque Welfare Trust Board (LAKMNS) wrapped up its annual Ramadan Charity Contribution Programme, which ran from 2 to 5 March.

A total of 2,179 pupils from 16 schools across Kuching benefited from the programme.

Recipients were selected from among orphans and children from low-income families, based on data provided by the Kuching District Education Office and the Padawan District Education Office.

The contributions, given as Hari Raya monetary gifts, aim to ease the financial burden on families as they prepare for the holy month of Ramadan and the upcoming Aidilfitri celebrations.

The gifts were presented by LAKMNS Chief Executive Officer, Datuk Abdul Hadi Abdul Kadir, accompanied by Deputy Chief Executive Officer, Mohamad Feisal Said, and senior LAKMNS officers.

Speaking at one of the distribution events, Abdul Hadi described the programme as a cornerstone of LAKMNS’s annual welfare calendar.

“This programme is one of the welfare initiatives we carry out consistently each year as a mark of our concern for those in need, whilst enlivening the month of Ramadan through acts of charity and the sharing of blessings.

Through this programme, LAKMNS hopes to bring joy to the pupils and help lighten the load of their parents or guardians,” he added.

Since its inception, the Ramadan Charity Contribution Programme has benefited thousands of pupils each year.

It has become one of LAKMNS’ flagship welfare initiatives, supporting the mosque’s broader mission to serve the community and strengthen the development of the Muslim community.
