SIBU: The eighth edition of the ‘Lan Berambeh Sungkei 2026’ Sibu Division programme attracted around 25,000 visitors to Dataran Tun Tuanku Bujang on Saturday (March 7).
Sibu Division Resident, Abang Mohamad Porkan Abang Budiman, said the steady flow of visitors throughout the event showed the community’s strong support and excitement for the programme.
“Alhamdulillah, the response has been very encouraging, and we believe visitors will continue to attend.
“In fact, we can see more people filling the field. The turnout has been truly remarkable,” he said when met by reporters at the event.
It was officiated by Political Secretary to the Sarawak Premier, Sayed Azmee Wan Junaidi, representing the Deputy Minister of Education, Innovation and Talent Development, Datuk Dr Annuar Rapaee.
Abang Mohamad Porkan added that the success of the programme was attributed to the participation of various government agencies, departments, clubs and non-governmental organisations (NGOs) that worked together to ensure the smooth running of the event.
At the same time, he expressed appreciation to Radio Televisyen Malaysia (RTM) for their cooperation in covering the ‘Jelajah Ramadan’ programme in Sarawak, which concluded this year in Sibu.
According to UKAS reports, he said there are plans to develop ‘Lan Berambeh Sungkei’ into a tourism event in the future.
“This initiative has been included in tourism planning, and an official letter has been sent to the Ministry of Tourism, Creative Industry and Performing Arts Sarawak, through its Minister, Datuk Seri Abdul Karim Rahman Hamzah,” he said.
He added that this year, the programme also received support and funding from the ministry.
“In the future, we plan to add more food and activities so that the programme can be developed on a larger scale,” he said.
