SIBU: The International Women’s Day celebration here saw 1,500 women across Pelawan constituency receive a chicken each at CCK Local today (March 8).
Deputy Minister of Public Health, Housing and Local Government, Datuk Michael Tiang Ming Tee, said that the initiative was a gesture of appreciation for women and their significant contributions to building families and communities.
“Women play a crucial role, especially in educating children and shaping the next generation.
“They contribute in many ways to the development of our society.
“In families, children receive love and support from their mothers, while the mutual support between husband and wife forms the foundation of a strong family institution,” he said when met by reporters at the event.
Tiang added that although this year’s programme was simple, it held great meaning as a token of appreciation for women in the area.
“The number of distributions this year has increased compared to last year, which involved only 1,000 chickens.
“In addition, this year’s programme has been improved to make it easier for the public to receive the distributions without long queues or long waiting times,” he said.
At the same time, he also took the opportunity to wish all women a Happy International Women’s Day.
