LIMBANG: Over RM4.72 million has been distributed through various welfare assistance schemes to help vulnerable groups in the Limbang and Lawas districts during the first three months of this year.
Federal Deputy Transport Minister, Datuk Hasbi Habibollah, said the total amount of RM4,721,300 includes RM4.32 million in Federal Assistance Scheme payments and RM400,400 in State Aid.
According to an UKAS report, he said that the aid has benefitted 3,185 recipients in both districts as of March 2026.
“This contribution reflects the government’s concern in ensuring the welfare of the people is always safeguarded, especially for those who require moral and financial support for daily living,” he said.
He made the remarks during the launching of the ‘Sejambak Kasih Raya Limbang 2026’ event held at Dewan Kampung Bunga Raya here on Saturday (March 7).
He added that the signature programme organised by the Sarawak Social Welfare Department (JKMS), ‘Sejambak Kasih’ this year targets 1,218 recipients in the Limbang Division.
Of this number, 100 recipients were celebrated face-to-face at the event, while the rest received aid through direct credit to their bank accounts.
Under the ‘Uplifting Lives Festive’ initiative, each selected monthly aid recipient also received an additional cash contribution of RM100 and a hamper of essential items worth RM80 to help with preparations for Hari Raya Aidilfitri.
Meanwhile, Hasbi, who is also Limbang Member of Parliament, called for more active involvement from various parties and agencies to collaborate with the Ministry of Women, Children and Community Wellbeing Sarawak (KPWK) in efforts to strengthen the welfare of the people.
“I believe in the concept of ‘the more you give, the more you get back’. This small effort is hoped to bring cheer and happiness to the target groups in celebrating the upcoming festive season,” he said.
