LIMBANG: A landslide blocked a main road and damaged infrastructure in Kampung Bukit Kota here on Saturday afternoon, forcing residents from three houses to evacuate as a precaution.
The incident was reported to the Fire and Rescue Department at 2.11 pm.
A team from the Limbang Fire and Rescue Station arrived at the scene four minutes later and found debris had cascaded onto the main access road, affecting three houses nearby.
The Sarawak Fire and Rescue Operations Centre said firefighters conducted an immediate assessment upon arrival to determine the extent of the damage and potential risks to residents.
Initial checks found that the landslide had directly affected three houses in the area, though all occupants managed to get out safely before the situation escalated.
The earth movement also damaged a main water pipeline and toppled an electricity pole, further disrupting essential services in the neighbourhood.
The collapsed soil mass also affected the road, leaving it temporarily impassable to vehicles.
Firefighters remained on the ground to monitor conditions and assess the stability of the surrounding slopes.
Authorities urged people living nearby to move to safer locations as a precaution against possible secondary landslides, especially if ground conditions deteriorate.
The operation concluded at around 5pm after officials determined that the immediate situation had stabilised.
Nevertheless, monitoring will continue to ensure there are no further earth movements in the area.
Officials warned that residents should remain vigilant, particularly during periods of prolonged rain which could further destabilise the ground.
For now, access to the affected stretch of road remains restricted while agencies conduct further checks and coordinate recovery works.
Among those who visited the site were Limbang Member of Parliament Datuk Hasbi Bollah and Bukit Kota assemblyman Datuk Dr Abdul Rahman Ismail, who were briefed on the extent of the incident.
