KUCHING: A 59-year-old woman who has been wheelchair-bound following a stroke is receiving continued assistance from a Hope Place Kuching as her family struggles to cope with mounting medical and living expenses.
Rohana Idris, who lives in Batu Kitang with her husband and daughter, suffered a stroke in August last year that left her bedridden for several months.
She is still recovering and remains wheelchair-bound while dealing with other health complications, including diabetes and high blood pressure.
Her husband, Zaidi, 64, currently takes on the role of her primary caregiver at home.
Although retired, he supplements the household income by taking on part-time grass cutting jobs.
Their daughter, Atika, 23, is currently pursuing her studies at a local college.
With no stable income in the household, the family also relies on financial support from Rohana’s son.
However, his modest earnings and responsibility for his own family limit the amount he is able to contribute.
Recognising the family’s situation, Hope Place Kuching has stepped in to provide continuous food aid to help ease their daily burden.
The non-governmental organisation expressed its appreciation to donors who continue supporting underserved families such as Rohana’s, particularly during the month of Ramadan.
