SIBU: The Magistrates’ Court here today sentenced a 23-year-old man to a fine of RM5,000, in default, six months’ imprisonment for committing criminal intimidation.
When the charge was read and explained to Mohammad Iezuaniezam Abdullah of Petra Jaya, Kuching, through an interpreter, he pleaded guilty to the charge against him.
The charge stated that on May 19 last year, he committed criminal intimidation by threatening a 20-year-old woman at the Laila Taib College hostel that he would release her nude videos unless she paid him RM100, intending to cause her alarm.
As such, he had committed an offence under Section 503 of the Penal Code , punishable under the First Limb of Section 506 of the Penal Code which upon conviction, carries a jail term of up to two years or fine or both.
According to the case facts, on May 19, 2025, at around 6.46 am, while at her college hostel, the complainant received a WhatsApp message from the accused threatening to distribute two of her nude videos on Telegram.
The accused stated that if the complainant did not want the videos to be spread, she has to make payment of RM50 for each video.
The complainant had known the accused since March 2024 through the TikTok app and frequently communicated via WhatsApp, including video calls, but had never met him in person until today.
The complainant came to the police station to lodge a report for further police action and investigation.
On Mar 3 at around 1.15 pm, following a tip-off, a team of police led by Inspector Miky Dustan from Petra Jaya Kuching proceeded to a house at Kampung Semariang Batu Petra Jaya and arrested the accused and seized a handphone from him.
The case was prosecuted by DPP Haris Danial Mohamed Hassan while the accused who has no legal representation, opted to pay the fine.
