KUCHING: Three subsidiaries of Sarawak Foundation presented business zakat contributions totalling more than RM435,000 to the Sarawak Baitulmal Fund (TBS) during the Yayasan Sarawak fast breaking ceremony.
Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg, who is also chairman of the Yayasan Sarawak Board of Trustees, witnessed the symbolic presentation held at the Satria Pertiwi Complex on Monday (Mar 9).
The business zakat contributions included RM412,390 from Petronesa Sdn Bhd and RM12,419.72 from Sanjung Etika Sdn Bhd, which were presented by State Secretary Datuk Amar Abu Bakar Marzuki.
Meanwhile, Pometia Sdn Bhd also contributed RM10,224 in business zakat, presented by Sarawak Foundation director Datuk Junaidi Mohidin.
The zakat contributions were received by Sarawak Islamic Council president Datuk Misnu Taha on behalf of TBS.
At the same event, 20 students — from a total of 62 invited students from Yayasan Kemajuan Insan Sarawak (YAKIN) and Yayasan Sarawak International Secondary School (YSISS) also received symbolic duit raya contributions.
Abang Johari and his daughter, Dayang Norjihan, presented by the contributiuons.
About 390 staff members from the Yayasan Sarawak Group and the Office of the Premier of Sarawak attended the event, which began with the breaking of fast, followed by Maghrib prayers and dinner.
The programme continued with Isyak and the Tarawih prayers.
