KUANTAN: The Pahang police received a total of 648 applications for permits to sell fireworks and firecrackers in conjunction with this year’s Hari Raya Aidilfitri celebrations throughout the state.
Its chief, Datuk Seri Yahaya Othman said that out of that number, 627 applications were approved, 19 were not given approval, while two others are still under evaluation.
“The police are also carrying out monitoring and inspection operations on firecracker and firework sellers to ensure compliance with the established regulations,” he said at a press conference during the launch of the Royal Malaysia Police (PDRM) Tanjung Putra 188 (PTP 188) Fun Run & Fun Ride 2026 at the Pahang police contingent headquarters here today.
Meanwhile, he said his team had made four arrests and seizures involving the offence of selling fireworks and firecrackers without a permit.
He said the monitoring operation will continue until the end of the festive period on March 26.
In another development, Yahaya said his team is still classifying the case of the five family members involved in the tragic murder incident in Taman Cerating Damai here on Feb 17 as a sudden death report (SDR).
He said that so far, the police have recorded five witness statements, including family members and close friends of the victim, to assist in the investigation.
“The police are still waiting for several reports from related agencies, including the forensic and chemical reports, before any conclusions can be drawn,” he said.
Speaking about today’s event, Yahaya said the PTP 188 Fun Run & Fun Ride 2026 programme will be held on May 23 at Padang MBK 1 here in conjunction with the 219th Police Day celebration, and will be targeting some 5,000 participants from various segments of society, including children.
He said that two main categories will be contested, namely the 5-kilometre (km) and 10 km runs, as well as the cycling events covering distances of 10 km and 50 km.
“The registration fee is set at RM50 for the 5 km run category, RM60 for the 10 km run, and RM70 for the 10 km and 50 km cycling events, along with a RM5 discount for early registration,” he also said, adding that various attractive prizes, including lucky draws, await the participants.
