KUCHING: Sarawak Police Commissioner Datuk Mohamad Zainal Abdullah paid a courtesy call on Deputy Premier Datuk Amar Awang Tengah Ali Hasan at Wisma Sumber Alam here on Wednesday, focusing on security issues in Lawas.
During the meeting, Mohamad Zainal highlighted local concerns in Lawas, including drug-related problems and rising criminal activity.
“I also shared views on security matters in Sarawak, including local issues in Lawas district such as drug problems, crime and several other matters that require attention,” he said.
He also raised the need to upgrade facilities and infrastructure for the Royal Malaysia Police (PDRM) in Lawas.
“Among the issues discussed were improvements to PDRM facilities in Lawas, where Awang Tengah could assist as the area falls under his jurisdiction,” he added.
The courtesy call was part of a series of visits by Mohamad Zainal since taking over as Sarawak Police Commissioner on Sept 26, 2025, succeeding Datuk Mancha Ata.
He explained that such meetings are a standard practice for newly appointed officials to introduce themselves to the state’s top leadership.
