STUTTGART, Germany: Profits for German commercial vehicle manufacturer, Daimler Truck, fell by 34 per cent in 2025, as the company faced pressure from United Statesd (US) tariffs and weak demand in North America, Daimler Truck said today, the German Press Agency (dpa) reported.

Consolidated net income fell to €2 billion (approx. USD2.3 billion or 9 billion) compared to around €3.1 billion in the previous year, the firm, which is based near Stuttgart, said in a statement.

Daimler Truck said it “delivered resilient financial Group results within its guided range in a demanding business environment defined by declining key market”.

“Our 2025 results show improved operational performance in a challenging business environment,” Chief Executive Karin Rådström was quoted as saying.

However, key financial figures were down across the board.

Revenue at Daimler Truck dropped by 9 per cent to some €49.5 billion from some €54.1 billion in the previous year, while earnings before interest and taxes (EBIT) in the industrial business took a 20 per cent nosedive to some €2.8 billion.

Daimler Truck expects its operational business to improve in 2026, driven by higher unit sales and increased efficiency.

Sales also declined in 2025, with Daimler Truck selling a total of 422,510 lorries and buses, down 8 per cent compared with the previous year.

Sales in North America dropped by 26 per cent, with only about 142,000 vehicles sold, as buyers remain reticent to put in new orders amid the volatile tariff policy of US President, Donald Trump.

Daimler Truck recently launched a cost-cutting scheme dubbed ‘Cost Down Europe’ to improve competitiveness and reduce running costs in Europe by more than €1 billion by 2030.

Under the plans, around 5,000 jobs are to be cut in Germany alone, with the Mercedes-Benz brand to be particularly affected. – BERNAMA-dpa
