KUCHING: The Sarawak Multimedia Authority (SMA) hosted 37 orphans from Sarawak Orphan Children Welfare Association (PERYATIM) at a special breaking-of-fast event here, reflecting the spirit of compassion and sharing during the holy month of Ramadan.

The event on Thursday (Mar 12) was attended by the Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg who is also chairman of SMA.
The programme began with SMA presenting a contribution of RM10,000 to PERYATIM to help support the institution’s operational expenses. The children from PERYATIM also received duit Raya from SMA.
Abang Johari witnessed the presentation of the contribution by SMA general manager Datuk Dr Anderson Tiong Ing Heng to the chief executive officer of PERYATIM Siti Hatizah Abg Sebit.
Following the presentation ceremony, Abang Johari and SMA staff listened to a recitation of verses from the Holy Quran delivered by Ustaz Muhamad Addaha Zaidi while waiting for the time to break the fast.
They later performed the maghrib, isyak and tarawih prayers together before the event ended with moreh (simple light meal after tarawih prayers).
