TATAU: The community here is stepping up efforts to fight crime alongside police and enhance local safety through stronger cooperation and community engagement.

Minister in the Premier’s Department, Datuk Seri John Sikie Tayai, who is also Tatau assemblyman, said the police cannot safeguard the community alone and stressed that public support is crucial.

“Residents play a key role by reporting suspicious activities and providing timely information to authorities. With strong collaboration, we can create a safe and harmonious environment for all,” he said at the District-level Ramadan breaking-of-fast event organised by the Tatau District Police Headquarters (IPD) on Thursday.

Initiatives such as the Rukun Tetangga and Community Policing programmes, he added, are vital in building trust and strengthening ties between law enforcement and local communities.

Tatau District Police chief, DSP Jame Reis, said the event also provided an opportunity for the police, community leaders, and residents to reinforce bonds and foster goodwill.

“Programmes like this help maintain peace and wellbeing in the district while encouraging closer cooperation between the police and community,” he said.

During the event, food baskets and duit raya were distributed to 20 recipients from Kampung Dagang and Kampung Baharu Tatau.

Four participants also received ‘Khatam Al-Quran’ certificates for completing religious programmes.
