SIBU: Tabung Baitulmal Sarawak (TBS) collected more than RM155 million in zakat in 2025, reinforcing its role in supporting underprivileged communities across the state.

TBS General Manager, Datuk Abang Mohd Shibli Abang Mohd Nailie, said the total amount of assistance distributed actually exceeded the annual collection as the organisation also utilised surplus funds from previous years to ensure continuous support for those in need.

He said the achievement was made possible through the cooperation of various parties, including government agencies, strategic partners, the media and the asnaf community, who have consistently supported efforts to strengthen the delivery of aid.

Speaking to reporters during the ‘Iftar Perdana’ event held in conjunction with the ‘Kasih Ramadan’ Programme at the Dewan Kompleks Islam Sarawak on Thursday (March 12), he said TBS remains committed to expanding assistance programmes, particularly during the fasting month.

At the event, Abang Mohd Shibli also presented financial assistance totalling RM53,400 to 213 recipients.

He added that overall, TBS distributed RM279,095 in aid to 1,010 asnaf recipients in Sibu Division to help them prepare for Ramadan and the upcoming Hari Raya Aidilfitri celebration.

“This reflects our commitment to assist those in need, especially in preparation for Ramadan and the Aidilfitri celebration,” he said.

In a related development, he revealed that a new Baitulmal building is being developed in Sri Aman using the organisation’s own funds.

The building will not only serve operational needs and provide rental opportunities but will also house several government agencies to enable the public to access multiple services at one location.

Among the agencies expected to operate there are the Department of Social Welfare, the Resident’s Office, the District Office, as well as several other departments providing services to the local community.

A State Government Service Counter will also be established at the building to facilitate easier access to government services.

During the same event, he also officiated the ‘Projek Infak Baju Raya Al Bait’ initiative, organised by Yayasan Kepimpinan Al Bait, which aims to provide new festive clothing to those in need, particularly asnaf around Sibu.
