KOTA BHARU, Kelantan: The Ministry of Education (MoE) will expedite the installation process of the second phase of closed-circuit television (CCTV) systems involving 333 boarding schools under its purview this year.

Education Director-General, Datuk Dr Mohd Azam Ahmad, said this initiative is a continuation of the first phase in 2025, where the installation of CCTVs had been completed in 200 MoE boarding schools.

He said the implementation of the second phase is now at the technical stage because the installation of the security devices cannot be done carelessly, but must comply with privacy-related laws.

“At this technical level, we are seeking input from the Office of the Chief Government Security Officer (CGSO) of Malaysia and other parties to ensure that the rights and privacy of children are always preserved.

“MoE is also collaborating with the Public Works Department to obtain technical advice regarding the procedures for installing the CCTV at school premises,” he said to reporters after the MoE ‘Jaulah Ramadan 2026’ programme at the Pengkalan Chepa Vocational College here on Saturday night.

Azam said that although there are various technical and legal reviews, the ministry assures that the installation for 333 boarding schools for 2026 will be expedited.

Previously, BERNAMA reported that 200 boarding schools under the MoE nationwide will be equipped with CCTVs in the near future, with an allocation of RM3 million.

That step is to enhance the safety level of students at schools, especially in the dormitories. – BERNAMA
