KUCHING: Universiti Teknologi Sarawak (UTS) vice-chancellor Professor Datuk Dr Khairuddin Ab Hamid paid a courtesy call on the Head of State as his tenure leading the university comes to an end this month.

Khairuddin, accompanied by his wife Datin Dayang Mariani Abang Zain, met Tun Pehin Sri Dr Wan Junaidi Tuanku Jaafar and his wife Toh Puan Datuk Patinggi Fauziah Mohd Sanusi at Kasuma Resort today.

According to a statement posted on Wan Junaidi’s Facebook page, the visit marked the conclusion of Khairuddin’s tenure as vice-chancellor of the Sibu-based university.

During the meeting, Khairuddin expressed his gratitude for Wan Junaidi’s advice, guidance and continuous support throughout his time leading the institution.

Under his leadership, UTS achieved several milestones, including increased student enrolment, particularly among Sarawakians.

The institution also transitioned from Universiti College of Technology Sarawak to a full-fledged university, alongside improvements in academic quality and research that strengthened its standing as a technical higher education institution in the country.

Meanwhile, Wan Junaidi emphasised that local universities should pay attention to student intake from various ethnic groups to ensure balanced human capital development capable of meeting Sarawak’s future needs.

He also stressed that a positive work culture is an important foundation in determining the strength of an organisation to remain resilient and capable of facing increasingly complex challenges.

Wan Junaidi and Fauziah also expressed their appreciation for Khairuddin’s contributions and service during his time leading UTS, while wishing him continued success in his future endeavours.
