KOTA SAMARAHAN: People have been reminded to stay safe while on the road over the Hari Raya holidays.
They have also been urged to ensure their houses are secure before embarking on ‘balik kampung’ trips for the festive celebration.
Sarawak Deputy Police Commissioner, DCP Saifullizan Ishak, said police across the state will conduct ‘Ops Selamat’ from March 19-24 in conjunction with the festive season.

He said the purpose of the operations is to decrease the rate of traffic accidents, enforce traffic regulations, and educate road users on road safety.
Police officers and personnel will be placed at accident-prone areas and at traffic jams, he said to reporters at the ‘Program Advokasi dan Kempen Keselamatan Jalan Raya Op Selamat’ event at Farley Kota Samarahan today.
“Last year, there were 332 road accidents during Hari Raya Aidilfittri, which was a drop from the 354 cases in 2024.
“Three districts recorded the highest road accident cases in 2025, namely Kuching with 87 cases, followed by Miri (50 cases) and Padawan (43 cases),” said Saifullizan.
He also said that the Pan Borneo Highway is one of the accident-prone areas that will be observed over the holidays.
“I want to take this opportunity to remind the public to be careful when travelling on the Pan Borneo Highway, especially at the P-turn junction.
“Please pay attention when coming up to the P-turn junction areas as accidents often occur there,” he said.
He also highlighted that throughout the festive celebration, there will be police presence to prevent crimes, especially involving residences which are left vacant during the holidays.
“I urge the public who are travelling during the festive season to inform police through the Volunteer Smartphone Patrol (VSP) application or go to the nearest police station or visit the RMP website to fill in the ‘balik kampung’ form.
“This will let the police know where their residences are, and they will conduct daily patrols while you are travelling during Hari Raya Aidilfitri celebration,” he said.
