KUCHING: The Association of Churches in Sarawak (ACS) has extended Hari Raya Aidilfitri greetings to Muslims across the state and the country, emphasising the importance of unity, mutual respect and shared celebration among diverse communities.
Its chairman Right Reverend Datuk Danald Jute said the “Christian community conveys its heartfelt wishes with delight, respect and kinship to Muslim brothers and sisters celebrating the festive occasion.”
He noted that in Sarawak and Malaysia, Hari Raya Aidilfitri is not only a religious celebration for Muslims but also a shared moment of joy that strengthens bonds among people of different faiths and backgrounds.
“Our strength lies in our ability to celebrate one another’s milestones,” he said in a statement issued today.
Jute added that the long-standing tradition of open houses reflects a spirit that transcends religious, ethnic and social boundaries, bringing people together in a shared atmosphere of peace, acceptance and reconciliation.
He stressed that such practices contribute to reinforcing the social fabric of Sarawak, describing the state as a “beacon of hope and stability” amid global challenges and divisions.
“Mutual respect is a foundation for a brighter tomorrow,” he said, adding that the Aidilfitri practice of seeking forgiveness — maaf zahir dan batin — serves as a meaningful pathway towards healing and unity.
Jute also expressed hope that the festive season would bring joy and peace to Muslim families, with homes filled with happiness and blessings.
