MIRI: Police here have escalated their crackdown on illegal online gambling, cutting electricity supply to three premises identified as operating unlicensed betting activities.

The coordinated operation, led by the Criminal Investigation Department at Miri District Police Headquarters, was carried out with the assistance of Sarawak Energy Berhad’s Miri branch.

The premises, believed to be operating from commercial shoplots, were found to be facilitating online gambling without valid licences.

Acting under Section 21A(1) of the Common Gaming Houses Act 1953, authorities ordered the immediate disconnection of power supply, effectively shutting down the operations.

Police said the move reflects a shift towards more disruptive enforcement tactics, targeting the infrastructure that enables illegal gambling rather than relying solely on raids and arrests.
