KUCHING: More than 5,000 Muslims gathered at Masjid Jamek Negeri Sarawak here on Saturday morning to perform Aidilfitri prayers alongside Sarawak’s top leaders.
The Head of State Tun Pehin Sri Dr Wan Junaidi Tuanku Jaafar, and Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg joined the congregation in a show of solidarity that underscored the state’s enduring harmony and togetherness.
Wan Junaidi arrived at 7.55 am, while Abang Johari was present earlier at about 7.45 am.
The Aidilfitri sunat prayer was led by Grand Imam of Sarawak, Datuk Mustapha Kamal Ahmad Fauzi, drawing thousands of worshippers to commemorate the start of Syawal.
Following the prayers, an Aidilfitri sermon titled ‘Syawal: Bangkit Dari Ujian, Bersatu Dalam Keimanan’ highlighted the importance of gratitude, unity and resilience among the ummah in navigating life’s challenges.
Wan Junaidi is scheduled to host an Aidilfitri open house at Astana Negeri Sarawak from 10 am to 4 pm.
Among those present were State Legislative Assembly (DUN) Speaker Tan Sri Datuk Amar Mohamad Asfia Awang Nasar, Minister of Tourism, Creative Industry and Performing Arts Datuk Seri Abdul Karim Rahman Hamzah, State Secretary Datuk Amar Mohamad Abu Bakar Marzuki and Sarawak Islamic Council president Datuk Misnu Taha, along with other dignitaries.
