KUCHING: A 58-year-old woman has suffered burn injuries after a fire broke out at a double-storey house in Petra Jaya.
According to the Sarawak Fire and Rescue Department (Bomba), firefighters from the Petra Jaya station were dispatched to the scene after receiving an emergency call at 1.13 pm.
Upon arrival, the operations commander reported that the blaze involved a permanent structure, with the kitchen and dining area.
“The fire also spread to a nearby room, causing about 10 per cent damage. Firefighters managed to control the blaze from spreading further,” it said.
The victim sustained burns on her back and hands and was given initial treatment by the Emergency Medical Rescue Services (EMRS) team before being handed over to the Red Crescent ambulance for further treatment.
Firefighting operations were carried out using an offensive method, involving one initial hose line and a 200-foot hose line, with water sourced from a nearby fire hydrant.
The fire was successfully extinguished, and the operation concluded at 1.50pm after the situation was deemed safe.
