KUCHING: Sarawak’s sustained commitment to strengthening its education system and expanding its infrastructure network is beginning to show satisfactory progress, credited to disciplined long-term planning.
According to Kuching Padawan Foochow Association and Simpang Tiga Community Association president, Kapitan Datuk Lau Sie Lok, the state government has intensified efforts in recent years to modernise education while narrowing the accessibility gap between urban and rural communities.
Central to these efforts is the push for digital transformation in classrooms, alongside ongoing programmes to upgrade school facilities, widen internet coverage, and deploy e-learning tools.
Lau described these initiatives as especially vital for students in remote areas who risk being left behind.
“Education is not just about the present state but also inclusive of the future society betterment,” he said, adding that ongoing investment is essential to nurture a competitive new generation that will sustain Sarawak’s talent development.
He argued that these measures reflect a broader state strategy to build a more inclusive and resilient education ecosystem, as Sarawak positions itself within an increasingly knowledge-driven global landscape.
Beyond the classroom, he highlighted that infrastructure development remains a central pillar of the state’s advancement, with continuing projects to improve rural roads, public amenities, and telecommunications networks helping to bridge the urban-rural divide.
He also noted that the gradual recovery of Sarawak’s tourism sector, bolstered by improvements in supporting facilities, has enhanced the state’s regional profile and signals growing investor confidence.
He was emphatic that the state’s development trajectory is driven not by short-term opportunism but by consistency and continuous multi-sectoral investment.
“A region’s true strength comes not just from momentary breakthrough, but from long-term perseverance and continuous improvement,” he said, stressing that Sarawak is now at a critical phase where infrastructure upgrades and stronger institutional capacity will serve as a cornerstone for future growth.
He called on all segments of society to remain united and collaborate closely with the government in advancing the state’s development agenda, emphasising that collective effort and shared responsibility are indispensable.
Lau concluded that with sustained resolve and a spirit of partnership between government and community, Sarawak stands well-positioned to enter a new era of prosperity, progress, and sustainable development.
