LAWAS: The Malaysian Islamic Welfare Organisation (PERKIM) continues to play a vital role in strengthening community welfare, particularly in assisting those in need through a wide range of social, educational and health initiatives.

Deputy Premier Datuk Amar Awang Tengah Ali Hasan said the organisation’s consistent efforts reflect its strong commitment to safeguarding the well-being of the community, especially in rural districts such as Lawas.

He noted that PERKIM Lawas had demonstrated commendable dedication throughout Ramadan by implementing various programmes, including the distribution of Hari Raya contributions to more than 1,300 recipients.

“This achievement proves that although Lawas is a small district, its ability to mobilise resources and extend assistance to those in need is highly commendable,” he said when speaking at the PERKIM Lawas Aidilfitri gathering yesterday.

Awang Tengah, who is also the Bukit Sari assemblyman, emphasised that close collaboration between PERKIM, government agencies and non-governmental organisations (NGOs) must be continuously strengthened to ensure welfare initiatives were carried out more effectively and comprehensively.

He added that the construction of the PERKIM Lawas building, which is currently progressing well, is expected to be completed soon and will serve as a hub for future community-based activities.

Meanwhile, PERKIM Lawas chairman Dayang Morliah Awang Daud said the Aidilfitri gathering was organised to recognise the contributions and dedication of PERKIM members in carrying out welfare initiatives throughout Ramadan and the year.

She said PERKIM Lawas remains committed to organising programmes that not only enliven the festive spirit but also ease the burden of underprivileged groups in preparing for Hari Raya.
