SARATOK: Kalaka assemblyman, Mohamad Duri, expressed high hopes that efforts to develop the agriculture and food industry sectors in Kampung Kaba will serve as a catalyst for food security in the area.

According to him, food security has become an increasingly pressing issue in line with global human needs and current life challenges.

“In this regard, the establishment of a community cooperative in Kampung Kaba, which is currently actively involved in rearing chickens, ducks and goats, as well as cultivating cash crops and oil palm plantations, is hoped to be implemented in a well-planned and effective manner.

“At the same time, efforts to strengthen the animal feed processing industry based on local raw materials such as nipah leaves, sago, napier grass, rice straw, and corn must also be enhanced,” he said.

He said this when met during a working visit by Deputy Minister of Food Industry, Commodity and Regional Development, Datuk Martin Ben, to the Livestock Feed Substation Project Site in Kampung Kaba on Thursday (March 26).

He added that the community initiative led by village chief, Ahmad Diwi Deli, is commendable, as Kampung Kaba has been selected as one of the locations for the implementation of a large-scale project within the Kalaka constituency.

Mohamad also expressed hope that all planned efforts will continue to receive strong support from the government to ensure full implementation.

Earlier, a briefing was delivered by the director of the Borneo Institute of Sustainable Feed and Agro Industry (BISFA), Dr Muhammad Norhelmi Ahmad, who highlighted the significant potential for developing a livestock feed industry based on local resources in the area.
