KUCHING: The Kuching South City Council (MBKS) will switch off lights across the Kuching South area for one hour tomorrow (Saturday, March 28) in conjunction with Earth Hour 2026.
The initiative will take place from 8.30 pm to 9.30 pm, involving participation from various sectors, including hotels, commercial premises and shopping malls, as part of efforts to reduce energy consumption.
Kuching South Mayor, Datuk Wee Hong Seng, acknowledged that the Sri Aman District Council is the official host for ‘Earth Hour 2026’.
“We encourage the public to not practise this for only one night but to adopt it as a regular practice.
Not only it helps reduce energy usage, but also lowers your electricity costs,” he said during the ‘Earth Hour 2026’ press conference held at the MBKS Council Chamber here today.
He added that cultivating such habits reflects a shared responsibility towards building a more sustainable environment.
The public is also encouraged to join the initiative by turning off lights during the hour.
The collective effort will contribute to a greener city and a more environmentally conscious society.
