KUCHING: A 34-year-old premises manager has been fined RM6,000, in default six months’ imprisonment, by the Magistrate’s Court here for operating an entertainment centre without a licence.
Carolina Mathew pleaded guilty to the charge before Magistrate Leona Dominic Mojiliu.
She was charged under Section 5(1)(b) and punishable under Section 5(3) of the Entertainment Ordinance 2000 for running the premises without a valid licence from the local authority.
The offence was committed at a premises along Jalan Tun Ahmad Zaidi Adruce at about 11.50pm on March 13.
According to the case facts, police conducted a raid on the entertainment outlet following information that it was operating without a licence.
During the operation, a woman was arrested and several items were seized, including a television, a speaker, a microphone and a sales receipt.
Further investigations revealed that the accused, as the premises manager, had been operating the entertainment centre without obtaining a valid licence.
The prosecution was conducted by Deputy Public Prosecutor Muhammad Aidil Akmal Sharidan, while the accused was unrepresented.
