LUNDU: A RM5 million allocation has been approved for the reconstruction of Sekolah Kebangsaan (SK) Sebako under the Greater Kuching Coordinated Development Agency (GKCDA) to ensure the welfare and safety of students.
Opar assemblyman Billy Sujang said the effort is being strengthened through site visits and technical discussions with relevant agencies to assess the project’s progress.
He said the reconstruction is crucial to provide better, safer and more conducive facilities for students and school staff.
“At present, the Lundu District Education Office is still awaiting the Public Works Department (PWD) to carry out an assessment and inspection of the existing structure before further action can be taken,” he was quoted as saying in an UKAS report.
Billy said the old SK Sebako building was previously rebuilt using the Unplasticised Bitumen Board System (UBBS) about seven to eight years ago.
However, the facility no longer meets required safety and comfort standards despite having undergone maintenance works such as repainting.
He expressed hope that the evaluation process by PWD can be expedited to enable the reconstruction project to be implemented soon.
“The implementation of this project is vital to ensure students in this area can enjoy a better, safer learning environment in line with the state’s development aspirations,” he said.
