SIMANGGANG: The Sri Aman Community Welfare and Health Committee has stepped forward to support a family devastated by a recent fire tragedy.
Led by its chairman, Gerald Empaling Donald, the committee conducted a welfare visit to the family’s temporary residence, offering aid and expressing solidarity during their recovery.
“The Sri Aman Community Welfare and Health Committee remains deeply concerned about the family’s wellbeing and is committed to providing continuous support during this challenging period,” said Gerald.
The fire, which broke out in the early hours of March 7, destroyed the family’s home at Lorong 1, RPR Phase 1, Taman Sentosa Indah.
The incident shocked the Simanggang community and claimed the life of nine-year-old Ahmad Arfan Shah, leaving residents grieving alongside the affected family.
Tragedy deepened when the victim’s grandfather, Abang Mohd Sanwani Abang Amin, 65, succumbed to severe burn injuries several days after the devastating incident.
Several family members also suffered serious injuries, including burns to their legs and bodies, further compounding the emotional and physical toll experienced by the household.
Dayang Siti Mahfuzah Abang Mohd Sanwani sustained burns on her hands and legs while attempting to escape, reflecting the terrifying circumstances faced during the blaze.
Recognising the family’s hardship, Gerald and committee members provided immediate assistance, including food supplies, stationery for children, and financial aid to ease their burden.
“Beyond financial and material contributions, emotional support is equally important to help the family remain resilient and move forward after this heartbreaking tragedy,” he added.
He further assured that the committee would continue monitoring the family’s needs while mobilising additional support from relevant agencies and compassionate members of the public.
The committee expressed hope that continued assistance and community solidarity would help the family rebuild their lives and find strength in the face of adversity.
