MIRI: Mercure Miri City Centre has handed over a mock cheque to Tabung Kebajikan Perubatan Malaysia (TKPM), Miri Hospital Branch, under its ‘Malam Cahaya Kasih’ 2026 initiative.

The charity effort was aimed at supporting children and community healthcare, with funds raised channelled locally to benefit those in need here.

General Manager of Mercure Miri City Centre, Shan Ravendran, said the initiative was a reflection of what could be achieved through collective effort and shared compassion.

“We are incredibly proud of what we have achieved together. This collective effort goes beyond fundraising as it enables children and families to gain access to essential healthcare,” he said.

He added that Mercure Miri City Centre hoped the initiative would also raise greater awareness and encourage more industry players to support TKPM and similar causes.

It was inspired by a community- and children-centred vision, and was brought to fruition despite early challenges, including finding the right partners to work with.

As part of its Environmental, Social and Governance (ESG) commitment, the initiative also included a recycling campaign involving used cooking oil containers and cardboard materials, promoting sustainability while contributing to the cause.

Miri Hospital Director and TKPM Miri Hospital Chairman, Dr Jack Wong Siew Yu, described the contribution as timely and meaningful, especially for patients from underprivileged backgrounds and those travelling from remote areas for treatment.

“What may seem like a small contribution can change the course of their lives and today’s donation is not just a number. It represents relief, second chance, and hope,” he said.

He also expressed hope that the collaboration would pave the way for future partnerships.
