KUCHING: Today marks Good Friday, a significant day in the Christian calendar that commemorates the crucifixion of Jesus Christ and his death at Calvary.
Observed during Holy Week, it falls just before Easter Sunday.
In Kuching, more than 1,000 worshippers gathered at St Thomas Cathedral to take part in the Stations of the Cross, a solemn devotion that recounts the final hours of Jesus Christ leading to his crucifixion.
A total of 14 stations were set up across the church premises, where priests and the congregation moved from one station to another, accompanied by hymns sung by the church choir, in a reflective and prayerful atmosphere.
The observance was followed by the veneration of the cross, where worshippers paid their respects in a symbolic act of reverence and remembrance of Christ’s sacrifice.
Present during the Station of the Cross were Bishop of Kuching, The Right Reverend Datuk Danald Jute, and Dean of St Thomas Cathedral, The Very Reverend Kho Thong Meng.
