MIRI: Rescue teams worked through the night to reach three stranded hikers in Lambir Hills National Park after one of them collapsed during a trek in dense rainforest terrain.

The Fire and Rescue Department received an emergency call at 6.30 pm yesterday (Apr 4) after a member of the group exited the park to seek help, reporting that one man had lost consciousness while two others remained inside.
Firefighters from Miri were deployed within minutes, arriving at the park entrance at 7 pm before launching a ground search. Park rangers joined the operation shortly after, followed by police personnel later in the evening.
Reinforcement teams were mobilised as night fell, with rescuers entering the forest in stages to navigate steep trails and low-visibility conditions inside the protected park.
Search teams located the hikers at about 11.20 pm.
When rescuers reached the group, the 32-year-old man who had earlier collapsed had regained consciousness but was weak. Emergency responders conducted an on-site assessment before allowing him time to recover.
All three hikers were then escorted out on foot under supervision, returning safely to the park headquarters at 2.55 am
The operation, covering an estimated 36 kilometres, involved multiple units including fire and emergency medical response teams, as well as five park rangers and police officers.
