KUCHING: A road safety workshop aimed at instilling safe travel habits among students was held at SJK Chung Hua No. 5 here today.

Organised by the Malaysian Red Crescent (MRC Stampin Branch), the “Safe to School, Safe to Home” programme focused on strengthening students’ basic understanding of road safety and encourage responsible behaviour when travelling to and from school.

The workshop was officiated by the MRC branch’s chairman, Chew Kim Soon, and witnessed by the school’s headmistress, Tay Kok Ing, reflecting collaboration between the organisation and the school in promoting student wellbeing.

Students attended the talk, followed by a video presentation, interactive games, and a simulation on proper road-crossing procedures.

A quiz session was also conducted to reinforce key safety messages.

The programme sought to equip students with essential road safety principles, including the correct steps for crossing roads safely, while fostering discipline and responsibility in daily routines.

By the end of the session, students demonstrated improved awareness of pedestrian safety and a clearer understanding of how to navigate traffic environments around the school.

Chew expressed appreciation to the school administration, teachers, and students for their cooperation in ensuring the programme’s success.
