KUCHING: Eleven vehicles were seized by the Road Transport Department (RTD) during a large-scale enforcement operation here on Tuesday (April 7).
The vehicles were found operating without valid Motor Vehicle Licences (LKM) and insurance coverage.
The seizures were recorded during Ops Khas Motosikal / Ops Luxury, which saw JPJ officers conducting both mobile patrols around the city and static inspections at Jalan Dato Hj Daud Abdul Rahman.
RTD said the operation was carried out to ensure continuous compliance with road transport laws and to curb offences that could endanger road users.
A total of 1,041 vehicles were inspected throughout the operation.
According to RTD, the 11 vehicles were detained after enforcement officers discovered that their LKM had expired and they were also not covered by valid insurance at the time of inspection.
Besides the seizures, officers also detected several other offences involving road users, including driving without a valid licence, expired driving licences, and various technical and compliance-related vehicle issues.
The department said such offences remain among the common violations detected during enforcement operations and continue to pose risks to road safety if left unchecked.
It stressed that enforcement efforts will be carried out continuously and more aggressively from time to time to ensure that all road users comply with the provisions under the Road Transport Act and related regulations.
The department also reminded vehicle owners and road users to ensure that all essential documents, including driving licences, Motor Vehicle Licences and insurance policies, are valid and renewed on time before using their vehicles on public roads.
