LIMBANG: Northern Sarawak’s strategic border position is set to drive stronger cross-border trade and investment, reinforcing its role as a key regional economic growth hub.

Deputy Premier Datuk Amar Awang Tengah Ali Hasan said Limbang and Lawas possess unique geographical advantages as they border Brunei, Kalimantan in Indonesia, Sabah and Labuan, positioning the northern region as a gateway for regional trade expansion.

He said the Sarawak government is committed to maximising these advantages to strengthen economic connectivity, attract investment and stimulate business activity along border areas.

“Our strategic location opens up vast opportunities for cross-border trade, which will further boost economic activity and create new prospects for the people, especially in Limbang and Lawas,” he said at the Limbang District Aidilfitri Gathering 2026 at Dewan Suarah Limbang on Thursday (Apr 10).

Awang Tengah said strong unity among Sarawak’s multiracial communities continues to underpin the state’s political stability, enabling development initiatives to be implemented effectively.

He added that under the leadership of Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg, Sarawak remains on track towards progressive and inclusive growth supported by increasing state revenue.

He said the revenue is being channelled to strengthen infrastructure development, enhance socio-economic programmes, improve welfare support and expand education and skills training across the state.

He also highlighted Sarawak’s strategic push into new growth sectors such as the digital economy, high-impact technology, renewable energy, the semiconductor industry and aerospace to generate employment opportunities and raise living standards.
